ST. BLAISE
Patron of Throat Ailments
Blaise was known as a healer of men and animals. Running from persecution against his religion, he settled in a cave. It is said that injured animals would come to him for aid but would never disturb him while in prayer. Hunters of Agricola, governor of Cappadocia, found animals collected outside his cave, and upon seeing him in prayer, arrested him. While imprisoned he saved a child from choking on a fish bone. He was eventually martyred by being beaten and skinned with iron combs, and then beheaded. b.
